A Theory of Change is a high-level hypothesis

This hypothesis describes the problem the Foundation is trying to solve, the recipe for how the Foundation will solve the problem and what ingredients are needed to make the recipe work. Finally, a Theory of Change identifies the desired outcomes it strives to deliver and how these outcomes will be measured.

Capacity Building

At the heart of our Theory of Change is our definition of capacity building, which includes a list of funding domains and an indication of relevant organizational characteristics for consideration when funding capacity building.  It is as follows:

Capacity building is an ongoing process undertaken by an organisation to strengthen its resources, systems and processes in order to achieve its objectives.  At the Sisterhood Foundation, it is our specific mission to support our Charity Partners’ organisational capacity building so they can improve on the delivery of their vision and build for the future. Capacity domains include:

  • Technology, Systems & Infrastructure;
  • People Resources, Management & Learning;
  • Marketing & Public Relations;
  • Fundraising & Business Development;
  • Research & Impact Measurement;
  • Finance & Accounting;
  • Strategy & Planning;
  • Governance & Legal;
  • Leadership & Agility;
  • Networking & Sector connectivity;
  • Advocacy.

We recognise the importance of ensuring effective uptake of capacity building initiatives and we therefore fund initiatives in the above domains that are appropriately aligned both to the current stage of maturity of the organisation and to the strength of its existing capabilities.
